Dallas Real Estate News

My clients closed on their new home on the 4th of June and leased it back to the seller until the 8th.  Both families get moved out and then in to their new homes and life moves on into the lazy, hot days of summer.

A full week later I got a call from the seller's agent saying that the seller was expecting a package at the old address some time that week.  She actually asked me to have the buyer bring the package to the seller's office when it arrived, but we moved on to determine that the seller should come by the house at her convenience to get the package.  In the meantime, I notified the buyer (new homeowner) that the seller was expecting a package some time that week and would want to come by to pick it up.

A week passed, and I got an email from the seller saying that the package was "dropped off on the porch" a week ago, and she wanted to know where it was.  She actually sent the police to confront the new owners about the whereabouts of her package.

While they were certainly willing to accomodate the delivery of the seller's parcel, it wasn't the new homeowner's responsibility to do so.  It was inappropriate for the seller to have put them in that position, and then blame them for the fact that it was apparently not still there seven hours later when they arrived home from work.  This was an unfortunate and avoidable drama that completely disrupted an otherwise uneventful homeowner honeymoon for my clients.

I know this is only about one third of the whole story, but my point is this... if you know that you are moving, don't forget to forward your mail, your subscriptions, your on-line shopping deliveries, etc., etc., etc.  Notify your family and friends of your new address as soon as possible.  It's easy enough to do!

If you are getting ready to make a move, drop me a line, and I'll send you a complimentary Moving Check List right away.
