Dallas Real Estate News

Inspiration can come from an infinite number of sources.  Yesterday I visited the Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art, and I came away inspired. It wasn't the exhibit itself that inspired me, although it was fantastic, beautiful, weird, intriguing and a wildly creative display of absolute perfectionism.  I was inspired by a simple line I read on a board telling about the artist as I entered the exhibit.  Apparently, Pierre Cardin told Jean Paul (early in his career) that it is "the idea, not the materials" that matter in design.

I toured the entire exhibit, oohing and aahing with the rest of the crowd.  I even got a little freaked out by the talking mannequins, and I was amazed by the intricacies of the designs. The exhibit itself was entertaining and thought provoking, but what I took from it had little to do with fashion, or even art for that matter.  What I came away with was that one notion that indeed, it is "the idea" that matters.

Translated into my own experience the word "idea" for me becomes "intention" and "material" means "direction, route, action".  Even when I was taking real estate classes, before getting my license, I knew that I would be a broker.  I have an entrepreneurial mindset, and working in a large franchise office or hitching myself to the tail of another independent broker (no matter the financial reward) were not long term options for me.  I couldn't possibly have anticipated the circuitous route I have taken to get here:  the moves, the missteps, elderly parents needing my assistance, or the years of being in one of the worst real estate markets in decades.  The one thing that has remained constant through it all was the "idea":  My intention to create exactly what I have created here at Elle Realty.

This June my brokerage will celebrate its fifth year.  I am surrounded by exactly the type of agents, clients and community that I had always envisioned for the company.  We are now building on our foundation of hard work, some hard knocks, a whole lot of commitment and fortunately for everyone, a much better market for real estate sales.

There have been times, and will be again, when I may be completely off course, out of fuel or not sure what to do next.  Of course, there is a BIG difference between implementing an artistic vision-- having nearly full control over every aspect of the creative process, and winging it while hoping for the best!  But as I recall, there were even a couple of pieces in the exhibit that were referred to as "accidents" in design.  Anyway you look at it, I was inspired yesterday.  I was inspired to keep the idea alive!  I am in a great place, and I am surrounded by great people.  Thank you to everyone who has been part of the fabric that is Elle Realty.
